INDIANAPOLIS – “The Society of Professional Journalists sends condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Bob Simon, longtime “60 Minutes” correspondent and CBS News foreign correspondent, who died in a car accident Wednesday in New York City. Simon, 73, was one of the great broadcast journalists of our time. It is a terrible loss for everyone who knew him personally, and those of us who knew him through watching him every Sunday night on our televisions or through his reporting from overseas conflicts since the late 1960s. He will be missed.”
Founded in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, SPJ promotes the free flow of information vital to a well-informed citizenry; works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists; and protects First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press.
