Ethics Hold em in Florida

SPJs Code of Ethics made the rounds July 6 at Florida Atlantic University when the student newspaper, The University Press, hosted a summer Ethics Hold em game for students.

Ethics Hold em is a take on the popular poker game Texas Hold em. It uses special card decks printed with different entries of the SPJ Code of Ethics. Some entries are repeated, and players finding matches win extra chips. The game was created in 2007 by the South Florida Chapter and funded by a national grant for ethics programming.

The event was hosted by SPJ student representative Gideon Grudo, University Press editor-in-chief Ryan Cortes and FAU newspaper adviser Dan Sweeney.

Grudo has extra Ethics Hold em decks and rules available for any chapters wanting to host their own poker night. Contact him at ggrudo@gmail.com.
