Here’s how to share information with reputable news media.

Some of journalism’s greatest contributions to society are built on the documents and information leaked to news organizations from employees of governments and private organizations.

Federal workers and other people may wish to leak information to reputable news organizations as the federal government begins to close people’s access to their government and wipe away information from agencies’ websites.

Modern technology makes the process of transferring documents and information easier than ever. Many reputable news organizations fortunately offer these secure pathways for people wanting to leak information.

In an effort to encourage leakers to share their information with reputable news organizations, the Society of Professional Journalists will keep an updated list of newsrooms offering those services.

HuffPost

The Intercept

The Intercept is a relatively new news organization led by well-known journalists including Glenn Greenwald, who led coverage of Edward Snoeden’s leaked data. The news organization offers a secure way to leak information to its journalists online.

International Consortium of Investigative Journalists

The ICIJ is a global network of investigative journalists who collaborate on stories. The group is best known for coordinating the deep dive into the leaked documents that are known as the Panama Papers. Additionally, the group covered a range of topics in the past. ICIJ offers an electronic and secure way to send documents and information to its journalists.

ProPublica is a non-profit news organizations staffed with accomplished investigative journalists. ProPublica offers a number of encrypted ways to communicate with their journalists. Undark Magazine

Vice

Vice Media is an organization that spans nearly all media from print to broadcast. The organization most recently launched a nightly news show on HBO. Vice offers a secure and electronic way to share documents and information with its journalists.

The Washington Post
