The attacks must stop. SPJ stands with journalists and supports their right to do their job free of threats, bullying and violence.
SPJ is angered and alarmed by the trend of public officials those who have chosen to be in the public eye while working for the American people and their treatment of journalists.
This behavior cannot and will not be tolerated. Not by SPJ. Not by journalists. Not by the American people who know a free and unfettered press has been a cornerstone of democracy for the past 240 years.
No matter what, members of the press will continue to do their important work. And we will stand by them and fight for their right to do so without threats and intimidation.
Its time to take a stand, but we cant do it alone.
We need your help to encourage a climate in which journalism can be practiced more freely and fully, to stimulate high standards and ethical behavior in the practice of journalism and to perpetuate a free press.
Get involved. Become engaged. Stand with us and add your voice to the critical fight for press freedoms.
When President Trump continues his anti-media, anti-press rhetoric, tip-toes around questions from journalists and chooses not to provide support for information he shares, the American public is the biggest loser. The public is entitled to ask the White House, Mr. Trump and other government officials and employees questions, whether the topics are something they feel are newsworthy or appropriate. Journalists fill the role for the public by working every day to hold them accountable, ask about policies and question facts, figures and information being shared by the government. Journalists will continue to do their jobs to hold this administration and all government officials accountable so the public can have the information it is entitled to. Lynn Walsh, SPJ President
