About Technolo-J
This blog launched by the
Society of Professional Journalists aims to help news professionals wanting to learn more -- in a hurry -- about technology.
Technolo-J will include product reviews; explain tech trends in and
outside the newsroom; provide tips and tricks on hardware and software;
give insight about time-management (how do
you fit of new-media work into an already busy sked?); share strategies
for smart Web production; and generally discuss ways individual
journalists and the entire news industry could innovate to make smart
changes that champion responsible journalism and have profound impact.
Technolo-J's blogging team includes David Joachim, weekend business
editor of The New York Times; Rod Overton, vice president of content
for Evening Post Digital in Charleston, S.C.; Ron Sylvester, reporter
and multimedia producer at The Wichita (Kan.) Eagle; and Kamal Wallace, copy editor, producer, CNN.
Who are these guys?
Ron Sylvester: After 30 years in journalism, covering just about every beat in the
newsroom, I jumped at the opportunity to create multimedia reports for
Kansas.com. Like many others in the industry I'm DIY. I have benefited
immensely from others who blog as they learn. I've found many come from
a photo/visual background. I decided to chronicle my learning as a
reporter going into this new area.
Network with me (after all, we can't be talking about all this technology without using it):
My MySpace page, which I set up to to keep an eye on my kids, but went ahead and built
a page while I was at it. If you're on there, add me as a friend, so my
15-year-old will stop making fun of my lack of "MySpace" friends.
My Linked-In profile: add me as a contact.
