Homecomings
I saw three interesting and well-written stories in the Sunday papers about how different Americans are coping, or not coping, with the aftermath of serving in Iraq.
In "Broken Warrior," Carol Smith of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer writes about Rob Withrow, who is seeking treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder while the Army wants to redeploy him to Iraq and court-martial him there for repeatedly missing duty. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/311672_soldier14.html
"Shattered Life" by Raquel Rutledge of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel profiles Michele McPherson, a highly decorated field medic trying to rebuild her life after being sexually assaulted by two U.S. Army sergeants in Iraq. www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=591248
"Fight or Flight" by Jenny Deam of The Denver Post describes the journey of Justin Colby, who deserted the Army and escaped to Canada rather than return to Iraq. www.denverpost.com/ci_5670860
These three stories all feature unhappy homecomings. Any recommendations of stories that focus on happier times for soldiers?
