Designing Woman
High fashion meets steel and plastic in a profile by Tamara Audi (what a great name for someone writing about cars) in Sunday's Detroit Free Press. Audi's "California Designin'" describes how General Motors is turning to a trendy and savvy designer to make its machines appear chic. Audi does a terrific job of showing how the worlds of Detroit and Malibu meet in her opening scene, and the whole story gives us a great glimpse into how the auto industry works. www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070211/BUSINESS01/702110586
The Free Press is also excelling with its recent coverage of Michigan's fractured foster care system. "Losing Isaac," an investigation by Jack Kresnak, Ruby L. Bailey and Tina Lam into the death of a 2-year-old boy, is prompting a re-examination of the state's troubled child welfare system. www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/99999999/NEWS05/70126035&template=theme&theme=ISAAC012007
