Word Clouds
MSNBC.com came up with a creative and interesting way to cover
President Bush's State of the Union speech. As a video of the president's address plays, you can see "word clouds" that graphically show the frequency with which Bush uses certain words. You can then easily compare the language in this year's speech with how often he used those words in prior State of the Union addresses. For example, you can see how in 2002 Afghanistan loomed large, while this year Iraq dominated. The package also includes an analysis of each part of the speech, a transcript, an opportunity to play the video by section, and a place where viewers can comment. The package doesn't come with credits, but I'm told that
Paige West, Sean Federico O'Murchu and Alex Johnson were the people who put it together.
