The Sunny Side of Iraq
In a slideshow unlike any other I've ever seen, photojournalist Ed Kashi presents thousands of images flipbook-style in "Iraqi Kurdistan." The rapid journey through the photos creates a sense of motion as we see images of Kurdish daily life in relatively peaceful northern Iraq. Kashi shows us children playing on bicycles, families picnicking in a field, people laughing at a carnival and couples flirting. We also see Kurdish soldiers training and the heartbreaking images of wounded civilians.
"Iraqi Kurdistan" appears on mediastorm.org, a collection of visual and audio journalism that is the brainchild of Brian Storm, the former multimedia director at msnbc.com. The site is fascinating and showcases the vast possibilities of multimedia journalism on the Web.
