Life of the Poet

G. Wayne Miller of the Providence Journal has crafted a stunning profile that reads like a novella. "The Growing Season" tells the story of Frank Beazley, who endured a childhood living in an orphanage ruled by harsh nuns and working on a farm with an alcoholic foster mother only to become an award-winning poet and beloved activist for people with disabilities. Miller's deep research allows him to share the kind of concrete details that make Beazley come alive for us. Miller includes himself in the story, often writing in the first-person about the time he spends with Beazley. Do you think it works?

Thank you Brian Summers for suggesting this remarkable story. Photographer Mary Murphy and the ProJo editing and design team also deserve praise for creating one of the best looking Web packages I've ever seen.
