Back to Biloxi
Almost every newspaper and broadcast outlet I've seen is doing some sort of Hurricane Katrina retrospective this week for obvious reasons. But I find myself turning to local Gulf Coast journalists for the best insights. Last week I featured the reporting of
The New Orleans Times-Picayune. Today I want to highlight the compelling work of its fellow Pulitzer winner, the
Biloxi Sun Herald. Its five-day
"Katrina: First Anniversary" package includes first-hand accounts of what people went through during the storm, a look at where the Mississippi Coast stands now, a review of future prospects, tales from survivors and descriptions of the ongoing work of volunteers. This is an impressive effort for a community newspaper whose staff has endured its own share of hurricane heartache.
