Adoption Tug-of-War
Kendra and Hung Wasson loved little Matthew. So did Cao and Thanh-Hoa Nguyen. Both couples wanted Matthew to be part of their families and fought a long legal battle to keep him. In "Mending Broken Bones -- And Two Families," appearing in Sunday's Portland Oregonian, Anne Saker does a beautiful job describing the adoption saga that pitted the two families against each other yet finally brought them together. I admire how Saker weaves in information about the adoption process and child abuse while keeping her narrative alive.
