State to pay more than $500,000 for withholding public records

We need more decisions like this. The state of Washington is paying a huge penalty for not coughing up records to a prison watchdog newsletter. Washington appears to have some pretty good teeth to its open records laws. More states need laws like that.

Huzzah!  While Andrew asks a good and important question, the fact that the state has to pay for withholding public records thrills me to the teats.  If anyone has any outstanding records requests, this is the time to remind the powers-that-be of their obligation to fulfill their duties.
