Reporter Arrested for "Dirty" Work
A reporter for The Record in New Jersey was arrested outside a Paramus middle school after he and another man collected soil at the school for laboratory analysis.
The reporter, Michael Gartland of Jersey City, and the other man, Thomas Adamkiewicz, a field manager for an environmental testing firm, were handcuffed by police Saturday after they collected a soil sample from West Brook Middle School. The men face trespassing charges.
The school had been closed for several days after pesticide contamination was found on school grounds. Gartland had broke the story about the contamination, which had been discovered five months ago, and he reported that school officials had not told parents about the potential danger until May 23.
Police say Gartland and Adamkiewicz had crossed police barricades to get the soil sample. For more on the story, check The Record story here.
