One big adventure

A while ago I blogged about changing careers, and how difficult it is to do even when one has only been in a job for a year or two.

Well, I can attest to change being possible, and though it is difficult to do, we are able. And I think our youth gives us an advantage in that we are better at all things technological, and we catch on quickly.

I recently accepted a job as a reporter for a weekly newspaper. I'll be leaving the copy desk and embarking on a whole new (and busier) adventure. I am excited for the opportunity to be writing again, but also anxious, nervous, and a little sad to be leaving a place with such wonderful people.

I've been lucky in that the newspapers I've worked for have had amazing employees who've been willing to teach the younger group, and coworkers who are friendly and helpful. I hope all newspapers are this way, though I have heard first-hand horror stories of other companies being ultra-competitive and making life more difficult for those just starting out. And that makes it more difficult to leave a place where I have learned so much and that has been so good for me.

But then, I'm just getting my feet wet and will keep walking in until probably I drown in journalism. And this new job is one more step into the water.
